Banished Opera poster. A.typographic interpretation of.the.oppressed Irish women onboard the.Australian prison ships.
Banished was an Opera put on by the Royal Irish Academy of Music. Banished tells the story of a group of women deported to Australia aboard an 1800s prison ship. The typographic design was used to position the opera as more of a cultural event, than commercial. Throughout the opera the women struggle against oppression, and their personalities struggle to break free from the ropes of their captivity. Motion design was used to generate variable posters, celebrating the opera's energetic and diverse characters.
